Jamie Carragher says, “This has been a disaster for Manchester United but also for Ruben Amorim”

Another former player and current football pundit, Jamie Carragher, slams Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim. Jamie Carragher says, This has been a disaster for Manchester United but also for Ruben Amorim. Manchester United is currently 14th in the Premier League table.

Basically, Ruben Amorim joined Manchester United on 1st November 2024 after the club sacked Erik Ten Hag. His first match as a Manchester United Manager ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town. Amorim has so far managed 49 matches for Manchester United as a manager and has lost more matches (21) than won (19) in all competitions. The fans are now losing their patience.

Jamie Carragher says, “This has been a disaster for Manchester United but also for Ruben Amorim.”

Jamie Carragher, who himself played football for Liverpool as well as the England National Team, feels this is a disaster for the club as well as the manager. There have been times when the manager is stubborn with his tactics and does not play as per the club’s style, which is annoying to the fans. This is true to some extent. He played a 3-4-3 with his former club, Sporting Lisbon, where he achieved a lot of success.

What he did at Sporting Lisbon was fantastic. But bringing a manager like that in with the system he plays I don’t think ever suited a club like Manchester United with the traditions at Manchester United

When a manager sees that the tactics are not impactful on the pitch, he should adapt as per the requirement. He should not change the whole system, as this has been the identity of his success. Also, changing the system won’t be effective as he has lost all of his wide players, such as Rashford, Sancho, and Antony. Jamie Carragher also explains that it’s like asking Pep Guardiola not to play short passes.

I have never been a big one for saying he has to change his system. A lot of managers speak and say the system might change but my style does not. His baby is his system.

It is like asking Jürgen Klopp not to press or Pep Guardiola not to play short passes through the middle of the pitch. This is what he is.

The system is surely not a problem, but the results are for the fans. All of the sacking shouts started when United lost ot the fourth division team, Grimsby Town. Manchester United have played six matches so far in the Premier League 2025/2026 season and have just seven points on the board. They have lost to Manchester City, Arsenal, and most recently, Brentford. United have drawn against Fulham, and they have defeated Burnley and Chelsea.
