The Sri Lankan Cricket team players have raised concerns about the security in Pakistan for their ODI series. Basically, the board has order players not to leave Pakistan, as a formal review will be taken if the players leave Pakistan. This was the reason why the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI was rescheduled due to the Islamabad blast.
Basically, Sri Lanka was going to play against Pakistan in the 2nd ODI on 13th November. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi was the venue for the second ODI. Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI rescheduled due to Islamabad blast: Full story revealed
There was a suicide bombing which took place in Islamabad on Tuesday, 11th November, outside a court. A total of 12 people lost their lives, while more than 25 people were seriously injured. It was the same day that both teams played the first ODI of the series, which Pakistan eventually won by six runs.
The players were concerned about the security, and many of them also wanted to leave Pakistan and get back to Sri Lanka. Basically, the Sri Lankan Board was clear that players should stay in Pakistan and continue the series. If any of the team players or staff members leave, then a formal review will be conducted against them. The board will send backup players for the series to continue.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was informed by the team management this morning that several members of the national team currently touring Pakistan have requested to return home, citing safety concerns. Following this development, the SLC immediately engaged with the players and assured them that all such concerns are being duly addressed in close consultation with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the relevant authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of every member of the touring party
..should any player or member of the touring party decide to return to Sri Lanka despite the directive issued by SLC to continue with the tour, Sri Lanka Cricket will immediately send replacements to ensure that the tour continues without interruption
If any player, players, or member of the support staff return despite SLC’s directives, a formal review will be conducted to assess their actions, and an appropriate decision will be made upon the conclusion of the review
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Moshin Naqvi shared his thoughts on the same. He said that he is “grateful for the Sri Lankan team to continue playing in the series.” Certainly, he also spoke about how the board has maintained the sportsmanship. This is surely worrying as the security of the players is the most important thing. Many years ago, the Sri Lankan players were hit by bullets while they were on an ongoing tour against Sri Lanka. Now, the second ODI will be on 14th November instead of 13th, whereas the 3rd ODI will be on 16th November instead of 15th.
