With the team getting shockers day by day, it was evident that it was going to happen soon. Real Madrid has shocked everyone as they sacked Xabi Alonso, their current head coach. The reason is surely not only because of the recent results, and some of the players are also part of this mess. Surely, the best football club in the world has always made the club the top priority. Now, the question is Are the players bigger than the club?
Xabi Alonso started his spell as the Real Madrid manager in June, as he took over the club from the beginning of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. In his first matches, he helped the team reach the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. Paris Saint-Germain knocked out Real Madrid in the semi-finals, but the team showed some positive impact from day one. Just more than seven months later, Xabi Alonso has been sacked by the club.

Real Madrid sack Xabi Alonso: Are the players bigger than the club?
Things started to get worse after Real Madrid lost the Supercopa de España final against their arch-rivals FC Barcelona in Saudi Arabia on 11th January. There was a video that showed that Kylian Mbappe denied a guard of honour to FC Barcelona players when Xabi Alonso asked the players to do it. The players eventually listened to the player rather than the coach, and this was surely the disrespect the manager felt. This would have been the exact moment where Xabi Alonso would have put a full stop and decided to leave.
While returning from Saudi Arabia, Xabi Alonso and Jose Angel Sanchez had a meeting on the plane. Once the players and the coach ended, the news was out on Monday (12th January) in the evening. At the beginning, when the news came out, it was said that both parties had a mutual agreement. Later, Xabi Alonso was sacked as the news got confirmed. This surely has left a lot of fans in shock, and it does not seem right for many reasons.
First, the coach did whatever he could have done with the things that he was given. He also did not have a good relationship with the players, and some of them did not even respect him. This surely does not work this way. Some of the important players came late to training and also left as soon as the training finished. Vinicius Jr. and his relationship started to have a downward trend from the time of the previous El Clasico.
Xabi Alonso with Real Madrid
Still, Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid were fighting for three trophies. They are just four points behind in La Liga with more than 15 matches left. Anything could have happened as there were chances Barcelona could have dropped points. Real Madrid is still in a comfortable position to finish in the top eight of the UEFA Champions League. They are also competing in the Copa del Rey. He managed Real Madrid for 34 matches in which he had 24 wins, 6 losses, and 4 draws. Alvaro Arbeloa will be the new manager of Real Madrid.
