It was a must-win game for Real Madrid after FC Barcelona took a win against Alves and were at the top of the La Liga table. Eventually, Real Madrid drew Girona 1-1, and we have FC Barcelona as the new La Liga leaders. They enjoy a two-point lead over Real Madrid, who were leading five points over them three gameweeks earlier.
Real Madrid are now winless in their last three matches in La Liga. They had a 0-0 draw with Rayo, then a 2-2 draw with Elche, and most recently a 1-1 draw with the 18th-place Girona. At the same time, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona kept their nerves calm and won all three of their matches against Celta, Athletic Club, and Alves.

Real Madrid drew Girona 1-1
This was very clear about who was the better team in the first half, and it was not Real Madrid. Girona were pressing, and Real Madrid players had no answer for it at times. The defence looked solid, but there was nothing done by the forwards in the final third. Arda Guler looked clueless and had nothing going in his favour. Mbappe’s goal was ruled out due to a handball. There was another shout for a penalty in the Girona box. They easily did a counter and got their first goal, exposing Real Madrid defence. Ounahi scored the goal for Girona.
Real Madrid made one half-time substitution, Arda Guler was off, and came in Camavinga. Vinicius won a penalty in the 67th minute of the match, and Kylian Mbappe converted from the spot. It was 1-1. There was also a shout for a penalty for Rodrygo, but it was not given by the referee. Thibaut Courtois had to make an important save to keep Real Madrid in the game. Xabi Alonso brought in Gonzalo Garcia and Alvaro Carreras in the 90th minute, and he removed Trent, which was just not logical. You bring in a player with box presence and remove the player who delivered the cross to him. In the end, Real Madrid drew Girona 1-1.
FC Barcelona are the new La Liga leaders
Before matchday eleven, if you asked anyone, FC Barcelona would be the new La Liga leaders with a two-point lead; no one would have believed it. We are here, and FC Barcelona are the La Liga leaders. They have now won their last four matches. FC Barcelona has scored 14 goals in those four matches and just conceded four goals. Raphinha started where he left, and Lamine, after that Chelsea game, had a great game as he was on the score sheet against Alves.
