Achraf Hakimi: First defender after 52 years to win African Ballon d’Or
In the past few years, it was clear that Achraf Hakimi would go down as the best right back in football, and surely he is right now. In the past two ceremonies, Achraf Hakimi missed the chance to win the African Ballon d’Or. They said when it’s meant to be for you, it will come to you, and it happened with Achraf Hakimi. After 27 years, a Moroccan has won the African Ballon d’Or. The last to win was Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
When we look back at his 2024/2025 season, what a season it was. Surely one of the best for a right back. Hakimi won four trophies with Paris Saint-Germain in the 2024/2025 season. Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Trophee des Champions, and obviously, the big one was the UEFA Champions League. It was the first time that PSG won the UEFA Champions League title. For Achraf Hakimi, the cherry on the top was that he scored the opening goal for Paris Saint-Germain against Inter in the UEFA Champions League Final.
Hakimi is out due to an injury right now, but the first thing he would want is to be fit for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. It starts on the 21st of December, and Morocco is going to be the host for the tournament. He would also want to help his club win more trophies, and we also have the FIFA World Cup 2026 starting in June.
