It was the second match of 15th September, where the six-time champions Sri Lanka were playing Hong Kong. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium was the venue for this Group B game. Sri Lanka beat Hong Kong by four wickets in the 8th match of the Asia Cup 2025.

Hong Kong were just coming to create an upset or spoil Sri Lanka’s party as they were 90% out of the Asia Cup 2025. Sri Lanka’s captain, Charith Asalanka, won the toss and decided to bowl first. He made one change to the team as Theekshana got a place in the playing eleven in place of Pathirana. Hong Kong’s need also made one change.

Hong Kong knew they wouldn’t get a place in the last four, but they didn’t start the innings on a negative note. Both openers had a great start as Hong Kong added 42 runs in the first six overs and only lost one wicket. Anshuman Rath and Nizakat Khan added 61 runs for the third wicket.

Eventually, Anshuman Rath just missed out on his half-century as he scored 48 runs. Nizakat Khan scored 52* runs in 38 balls and helped his team reach 149/4 in their 20 overs. Dushmantha Chameera got two wickets in his four overs and was economical.

It was Pathum Nissanka who was the Man of the moment in Sri Lanka, batting as he scored 68 runs in 44 balls before he was run out in the 16th over. The other Sri Lankan batters had their cameos as no one could cross the 20-run mark.

At one moment, the match was looking tricky, but Wanindu Hasaranga’s 20 runs in 9 balls took the match away from Hong Kong. Sri Lanka won the match by four wickets with seven balls left. Yasim Murtaza took two wickets for Hong Kong.

Pathum Nissanka single-handedly scored almost the maximum runs for Sri Lanka. He was the Man of the Match in this match. Nissanka is now the top scorer of the Asia Cup 2025 with 118 runs in 2 matches. Sri Lanka has two wins in two matches and has one leg in the Super-Fours. Hong Kong’s Asia Cup 2025 journey is over, and now they head back home.
