“He’s playing well….Basically, the spots are taken” Sourav Ganguly on Dhruv Jurel’s place in Test team

During a recent interview, former Indian team captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had his say on the Indian Test squad to play against South Africa. There are a lot of questions on whether Dhruv Jurel, with a great form, can he get a place the starting eleven or not. With Pant returning, Sourav Ganguly shares his thoughts on Dhruv Jurel’s place in the team.

India is all set to play a two-test match series against the South African team. The first test match will start on 14th November at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Eventually, Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati will be the venue for the second test, which starts on 22nd November. We will also see a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20 series.

“He’s playing well….Basically, the spots are taken” Sourav Ganguly on Dhruv Jurel’s place in the Test team

Sourav Ganguly feels that with Rishabh Pant returning to the Indian test squad, who is also the vice-captain, he is not sure what plans the selectors have with Dhruv Jurel. The openers of the team will be Jaiswal and KL Rahul, whereas the captain, Shubman Gill, will bat at four. We will see Rishabh Pant at the fifth position. There is also Ravindra Jadeja, who will be a part of the squad.

He’s playing well, isn’t he? Rishabh is back and I don’t know what the selectors are thinking. Basically, the spots are taken — two openers, (Shubman) Gill at 4, Pant at 5, KL (Rahul), (Ravindra) Jadeja are there. Players have performed. How easy will it be to open up a slot for Dhruv Jurel at this stage, I wouldn’t know But it depends on whom they want to send at No. 3 — whether they want to go with Sai Sudharsan, or bring in our in-form Dhruv in. We’ll find out

There is one spot where we can see Dhruv Jurel play if the selectors and coach want. It might be in the number three position. With Sai Sudharsan not getting the runs as expected from him, it can open up a door for Dhruv Jurel in the team. Whenever given a chance, Dhruv Jurel has performed and surely deserves to get a place in the Indian team.

He just played one match against the England team in England. It was the Oval test where he scored 19 in the first innings and 34 in the second. In India’s last test series against the West Indies team, Dhruv Jurel scored 125 runs in the first test, whereas he scored 44 in the first innings of the second test and was on 6* in the second innings. India can try Dhruv Jurel in the number three role.
