Some things on the field go out of hand from the players towards the umpire, which is surely against the nature of the game. The same thing happened with Maharashtra’s Ankit Bawne. He did not want to leave the field when the umpire gave him out. This was the reason for which Ankit Bawne was suspended for one match After Umpire Dissent in the Ranji Trophy.
It was the game between Maharashtra and Services in the Ranji Trophy 2024/2025 Elite Group. Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune was the venue for this game. Rajat Paliwal, the captain of the Services team, won the toss and decided his team would bat first on this wicket.

Ankit Bawne Suspended for One Match After Umpire Dissent in Ranji Trophy
The Services team batting first scored 293/10 in their first innings, with Suraj Vashisht, Ravi Chauhan, and Rohilla all getting half-centuries. Hitesh Walunj picked up five wickets. In reply, the Maharashtra team scored 185/10 in their first innings. It was the wicket of the captain, Ankit Bawne, that was the cause of all the controversy.
Basically, he was dismissed by Amit Shukla, and the catch was taken by Shubham Rohilla. The umpire had given him out, but he was not ready to leave the field, as he thought he was not out. He almost waited for 15 minutes on the field for the umpire to change the decision, but it did not happen. The DRS was not available in this game, as some Ranji Trophy matches have, and some don’t.

At the end, the Maharashtra team lost that match by 35 runs, and Anit Bawne was given a one-match suspension. The Maharashtra Cricket Association was formed with the BCCI’s decision to do so. They also believed this was against the sportmanship, and once the umpire gives his decision, that player should go out. At the end of the day, umpires are humans and they can make mistakes. The players should always respect the game.
