Abhishek Sharma makes T20I History by setting a new record in India’s first match of the Asia Cup 2025. They were playing the host country, the United Arab Emirates. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium was the venue. India won the match by nine wickets eventually.

Batting first, the United Arab Emirates scored just 57 runs, which is the third-lowest total in the history of the Asia Cup. They got a good start as they scored 25 runs in the first three overs. From the fourth over, it was the dominance of the Indian bowlers.

Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, Shivam Dube got three wickets, and Axar, Bumrah, and Varun got one wicket each. India’s batters chased the target in just under five overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the Man of the Match for his four wickets for seven runs.

The Indian batter could have taken a few balls to settle in, but Abhishek Sharma was all ready from the dugout. He scored a six on the first ball and became the first Indian to start a run chase with a First-Ball Six. Abhishek again scored a boundary on the second ball.

He scored 30 runs in 16 balls before getting out to Junaid Siddique. His innings had three sixes and two fours. Suryakumar Yadav also started his innings with a six. Shubman Gill scored the winning runs.

Abhishek Sharma made his T20I debut for India on 7th July 2024 against Zimbabwe in Harare. His debut was surely not one to remember as he got out on zero after playing four balls. To date, Abhishek Sharma has played 18 T20 matches for India and has scored 565 runs. He also has two centuries and two half-centuries. Abhishek currently has the best strike rate in the T20 format.

He is a player for the future, and his style of play surely puts pressure on the opponent bowlers. His approach is clear, and it is to attack from the start. This reminds us of how Virendra Sehwag used to play. He can also off-spin, which helps him captain to manage the overs if one of the main bowler is having a bad day.
