Finally, Hansi Flick’s and FC Barcelona’s 11-match winning streak comes to an end. Real Sociedad, playing at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta, won their match against FC Barcelona 2-1. The game had a lot to offer and surely was entertaining for the neutral fans. Disallowed goals, hitting the woodwork five times, and great saves pulled by the Real Sociedad goalkeeper, Alex Remiro. There was also a controversial decision on Lamine Yamal being offside or not, which clearly the FC Barcelona coach and the players were not happy about. What’s done is done as FC Barcelona takes no points from the match. The La Liga title charge is back.

FC Barcelona drops points against Real Sociedad: Just one point separates Real Madrid and FC Barcelona
An early goal was scored by Real Sociedad, but it was offside. FC Barcelona also had a chance, but Pedri’s shot was saved by the Real Sociedad goalkeeper. Fermin Lopez found the back of the net, but the goal did not stand. There was a foul in the buildup to the goal. Mikel Oyarzabal made it 1-0 in the 32nd minute and gave Real Sociedad a lead. FC Barcelona had 74% possession in the first half. They missed two big chances and had twelve shots in the first half.
Surely, the second half had a lot to offer. FC Barcelona started with a bang, as in just a matter of a couple of minutes, the ball hit the post twice, and still they were trailing. Joan Cancelo, who made a return to the FC Barcelona team, made his debut. Marcus Rashford scored the goal in the 70th minute of the match to make it 1-1. It did not take much for the Real Sociedad players to give a reply, as the next time, Real Sociedad made it 2-1. Goncalo Guedes was the goal scorer.
The game had more drama as Carlos Soler, the assist provider of the second goal, was sent off in the 88th minute of the game. At the end, Real Sociedad won their match 2-1, and now just one point separates Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Basically, FC Barcelona plays midweek in the Champions League against Slavia Prague away from home. This is a must-win game for them to keep their top-eight hopes alive. Their next game in La Liga is against Real Oviedo at home on 25th January.
