It is the first day of the first test match in the England vs Australia Ashes series, and we have already seen Mitchell Starc breaking a 34-year Ashes record. The England captain, Ben Stokes, won the toss and decided his team would bat first in the first test. Basically, the Perth Stadium in Perth is the venue for the first Ashes test.

It just took 32.5 overs for Australia to take all the wickets of the England team, and that is a record in itself. England were just able to face 197 balls before getting all out. This is the third-shortest innings in an Ashes test on Australian soil.

England vs Australia: Mitchell Starc breaks a 34-year Ashes record
Mitchell Starc was very much aware of being the main man in the bowling department of the Australian team, as there was no Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood. He single-handedly destroyed the England batting line-up as he picked up 7/58 in the first innings of the Ashes first test. Starc got many important wickets of the England batting department. He dismissed both the opener and later got Root, Ben Stokes, and the wicket-keeper, Jamie Smith.
With seven wickets, he now has his new best bowling figures in test cricket. He broke his best bowling figures in test cricket, which he achieved a few days ago. Starc took 6/9 against the West Indies, and just a few months later, he has his new best bowling figures. Mitchell Starc now also has the record for the best bowling figures at the Perth Stadium. The previous record belonged to the Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami.
Now, let us look at the record that he broke in the Ashes after 34 years. Mitchell Starc became the first bowler to take seven wickets on the first day of an Ashes test match. Basically, he became the first player after Craig McDermott to take seven wickets on the first day. Taking seven wickets in an Ashes test is surely one of the rarest records a player can set. This is only the second time a player has set this record in the 21st century.
