Today, on the 13th of November 2025, Shane Watson joins the KKR coaching team as their new assistant coach for the following Indian Premier League season. This is surely a big boost for the franchise.
Ottis Gibson was the assistant coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2025 edition. There are a lot of chances made by the Kolkata franchise for the Indian Premier League 2026 edition, and Shane Watson is one of them. They are still looking to hire their new bowling and fielding coach for the upcoming season.

Shane Watson joins the KKR coaching team
Watson has played a lot of cricket in the Indian Premier League and was one of the important players on his team. He played seven seasons with the Rajasthan Royals. Just to remind you, Shane Watson was the Player of the Tournament in the first season of the Indian Premier League. He played two seasons for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Later purchased by the Chennai Super Kings. He played three seasons for them.
Undoubtedly, Shane Watson is one of the best all-rounders that cricket has seen. He has won a lot of trophies for his country. Shane Watson has won two ICC Men’s World Cups, one in 2007 and the other in 2015. He also has two Champions Trophy titles, one in 2006 and the other in 2009. Apart from this, he also has two Indian Premier League titles. One with the Rajasthan Royals, in the first edition of the Indian Premier League, and the other with the Chennai Super Kings in 2018.
He has a lot of experience as a player, and now he has an opportunity to guide the youngsters. Shane Watson will be the assistant to the head coach, Abhishek Nayar. Dwayne Bravo will be the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders. After a failed IPL 2025 in which they were the defending champions, Kolkata now looks to bounce back. Eventually, it will be great to see what Watson brings to this KKR team.
