World Cup-winning Harmanpreet Kaur’s story: She used to play with the boys in Moga

Every player has a different story, from struggles to success. This is the story of India’s World Cup-winning Harmanpreet Kaur. She used to play with the boys in Moga, and yesterday, on the 2nd of November 2025, the Indian Women’s under her captaincy won their first ever ICC Women’s World Cup. This is surely one of the most inspiring stories.

This was her 5th ICC Women’s World Cup and most probably the last. In the previous edition, India were out in the group stages, which was painful. The more painful one was the 2017 Women’s World Cup, where she had the best performance by a batter in the semi-finals. Today, when she looks back, it was surely a story that was going to end this way that India won the first Women’s World Cup under her captaincy.

World Cup-winning Harmanpreet Kaur’s story: She used to play with the boys in Moga

More than 15 years ago, a small girl from Moga started her cricketing journey. She started her journey from playing in a school uniform with a dupatta around her waist. Harmanpreet Kaur also played cricket against the boys when he was just sixteen years old. A small town that had very little for girls to play cricket had a World Cup winner today who will inspire many girls, not only in Moga but in other towns of India as well, to start their cricketing journey.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s coach,  Kamaldeesh Pal Singh Sodhi, couldn’t be prouder of her student than this. He couldn’t resist his happiness as he says, “Saadi zindagi, saadi mehnat safal ho gai.” This means all the hard work has finally paid off, and he is a hundred percent right. Her coach also mentioned how much she was fond of cricket, as she played with a dupatta on her waist.
