India is playing in the second test match against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The test match started on 10th October. Shai Hope scored a century against India in the second innings on the fourth day of the Test Match. There is a reason why Shai Hope’s Century Against India Means More Than Just Runs on the Board.
Basically, India was batting first, and they were 518/5 before India’s captain, Shubman Gill, decided to declare the innings. Jaiswal scored 175 runs, whereas Gill scored 129 runs. The West Indies team could only score 248/10 in their first innings and were behind by 270 runs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up 5/82, whereas Ravindra Jadeja had bowling figures of 3/46.
Why Shai Hope’s Century Against India Means More Than Just Runs on the Board
As the West Indies team was behind by 270 runs, they needed a special innings from their batter, and they got one from Shai Hope, one of their former captain. He scored a century on the fourth day of the second test match. Hope was on 98 when he hit a boundary on Siraj’s ball. He completed his century in style, and he reached a three-figure mark in test cricket after eight years.
The last time he made a century was in 2017 against England in Leeds. He scored two centuries in that test match, 147 runs in the first innings, and 118* runs in the second innings. The West Indies team won that match by five wickets. Eventually, the century against India was his third century in test cricket and first in India in test matches.

He also completed another milestone as he completed 9000 international runs in 236 matches on the third day of the test match. It is surely a great achievement for any batter to score so many runs for his country. The year 2025 was not going that great for the West Indies team, as no batters scored a century from the start of 2025. Now, two batters scored a century in the same match for them, first John Campbell and then Shai Hope.
