Manoj Tiwary thinks Rohit Sharma should “keep his dignity intact” and retire after the Australia series

Manoj Tiwary, who himself has featured for India in the ODI as well as the T20 format, thinks Rohit Sharma should “keep his dignity intact” and retire after the Australia series. The reason he thinks so is because of how Rohit Sharma was removed from the captaincy after the success he has achieved with the Indian Cricket team over the past few years.

Shubhman Gill, who was recently given the Test format captaincy after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. He will be the one to receive the ODI captaincy as well from Rohit after the BCCI’s decision. The Indian team is ready to play three ODIs against the Australian team in Australia. Basically, the series starts from 19th October.

Manoj Tiwary thinks Rohit Sharma should “keep his dignity intact” and retire after the Australia series

One thing is clear: if Rohit Sharma now wants to be in the Indian team in the ODIs, it will purely depend on his form. Manoj Tiwari feels that Rohit Sharma might not be in the BCCI’s plan for a long time. He also feels that Rohit Sharma should announce his retirement after the ODI series is over. The ODI series eventually gets over on 25th October.

I don’t think he (Rohit) is really in their plans anymore. Everything now depends on his performance. If I were Rohit Sharma, I would have considered retirement after this

A player like him doesn’t deserve this kind of humiliation

He didn’t just win one ICC trophy – he won two. He came so close in the ODI World Cup as well, performing brilliantly both as a captain and as a player. And let’s not forget – he has five IPL trophies to his name. After all of that, to be treated this way is just not right. Personally, I don’t think he should continue after being disrespected like this

Rohit Sharma was a selfless captain and has done every possible thing for the Indian team. He has a 75% win record in the ODI format. During his time with the Indian team as an ODI captain, Rohit helped his team win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. His dream of winning the ICC World Cup was just very close, but India lost in the final against Australia. Rohit Sharma also brought a lot of youngsters by giving them chances, and they are performing so well.

If you ask me, before they push him out, it would be better if he himself steps away – at least that way, he can leave with his dignity intact

A player who has given so much surely does not deserve this kind of treatment. It would be better for Rohit not to continue to play for the Indian team. This is surely disrespectful to one of the legends of the game. The Indian team is getting new stars day by day, and Rohit Sharma’s place seems a bit tough for the ICC World Cup 2027. Everything will be clear once Rohit Sharma speaks for himself.
