India is yet to fix the number three role in the test match format, with chances given to a lot of players, such as Sai Sudharsan. Dhurv Jurel is currently playing in the Indian team as a wicket keeper, as he is a replacement for Rishabh Pant. The question is, can Dhruv Jurel play as a pure batter in the Indian Team? Once Pant is back.
Just recently, India played the West Indies in their first test match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian team eventually won the match by an innings and 140 runs. India just batted in one innings, which had three players scoring centuries. Dhruv Jurel was the best of all as he scored 125 runs in 210 balls, which included 15 boundaries and three massive sixes. This was his first century in international cricket.
Can Dhruv Jurel play as a pure batter in the Indian Team?
Dhruv Jurel made his test debut against England on 15 February at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. He scored 46 runs in the first innings and did not get a chance to bat in the second innings. After Cheteshwar Pujara not playing for India in test cricket, the number three spot has seen a lot of different batters. No one has impressed that much with getting the runs in that position. Basically, Sai Sudharsan is the current number three batter in the Indian team in the test format. He eventually made his debut in India’s tour of England. His stats do not look that impressive. In the four matches he played, Sai Sudharsan only managed to score 147 runs. He got out for seven in the first test against the West Indies.

Currently, Dhruv Jurel is playing as a replacement for Rishabh Pant. The kind of performances he is showing, he is a front candidate to play in the number three spot once Sai Sudharsan again fails to impress. Dhruv Jurel has a great record in the Ranji Trophy as well. He has over 1800 runs in 28 matches in his first-class career with an average above 50. This also shows that he can play as a pure batter as well in the Indian team. Will he get the number three or will he bat in the lower middle order is the question.
